IceFishingUSA.com helps anglers find ice fishing outfitters and send them inquiries. This page explains what we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and what you can ask us to do.
Who we are
The site is run by 14926668 Canada Ltd., Anola MB R5L 0L5. The person responsible for privacy is Ben Baker. Reach him at hello@icefishingusa.com.
What we collect and why
Inquiries
Your name, email, and anything else you put in the form: phone, group size, dates, and your message. We use it to get your message to the outfitter you picked and to email you a copy. We also keep a note of how you found us, such as an ad campaign tag or the site that linked you, so we know which ads work. Outfitters see that note as a total, never tied to your name.
Newsletter
If you sign up for the ice report, or tick the box on an inquiry, we keep your email, the regions you picked, and when and where you signed up. That record is how we show you agreed to hear from us. Every email has an unsubscribe link that works in one click.
Ice reports
If you send an ice report, the name you give is published with it. Your email, if you add one, is private and only used to ask you about the report.
Outfitters
Listings are built from what businesses publish on their own websites and tourism listings. We never show a business email on the site. We use it to tell the business it has an inquiry. When someone claims a listing, we keep their name, email, and sign-in account so they can manage it. Any business can ask us to stop emailing it or to remove its listing.
Spam protection
Forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to block bots, and we limit how often one connection can send forms. For that we keep a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address, never the address itself.
Listing views
We count how many times each listing is viewed per day, so outfitters can see how their listing is doing. The count has nothing about you in it: no cookie, no IP address, no ID.
Maps
The maps on the site come from OpenFreeMap, a free map service. To draw a map, your browser asks OpenFreeMap for the map pieces it needs, which shows them your IP address and the area you're looking at, the same as visiting any website. We don't send them anything else, and the map loads only when you scroll to it.
Error reports
When something on the site breaks, Sentry tells us. It's set up so it doesn't receive what you type in forms, your cookies, or your IP address.
Analytics
With your permission only, we use Google Analytics, and may use the Meta pixel, to see how people find and use the site. They're off until you say yes to the banner, and nothing you type in a form is sent to them.
Who we share it with
- The outfitter you contacted. That's the point of the form. If the outfitter hasn't claimed their listing yet, we tell them the dates and group size so they know it's worth claiming, but not your name or contact details. Those go to them only after they claim it. Once they have your message, they handle it under their own privacy practices.
- GuideFlow. Some outfitters take inquiries through GuideFlow, booking software run by the same people as this site. For those outfitters, your inquiry goes into their GuideFlow inbox.
- Companies that run parts of the site for us, only for that job:
- Supabase (our database and sign-in), stored in Canada (Montreal)
- Vercel (hosting); our server code runs in Montreal, and pages are served worldwide
- Resend (sending email), in the United States
- Cloudflare Turnstile (bot checks), worldwide
- Upstash (rate limits, hashed IP only), may be outside Canada
- Sentry (error reports), in the United States
- OpenFreeMap (map images, loaded by your browser), may be outside Canada
- Google and Meta (analytics, only if you agree), in the United States and elsewhere
Your information is stored in Canada and handled by the providers above, so it's subject to the laws of Canada and of the places those providers work, and may be accessible to courts and authorities there. We choose providers that protect it under contract. We don't sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
Cookies and similar
- Sign-in cookies, only if you're an outfitter or admin who signs in.
- Your answer to the analytics banner, saved in your browser.
- The campaign tag or linking site from your first page, kept in this browser tab only and sent to us only if you send an inquiry.
- Google Analytics and Meta cookies, only after you say yes.
You can change your answer any time, here or from the link at the bottom of every page: . Changing it deletes the analytics cookies and asks you again.
How long we keep it
- Inquiries to a listing nobody has claimed: 30 days, then deleted.
- Other inquiries: 2 years, so outfitters can look back at last season.
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days. We keep only your email on a do-not-email list, so you're never signed up by mistake again.
- Ice reports: the report stays published; your email and hashed IP are deleted after 2 years.
- Listing claims that weren't approved: 2 years. Outfitter accounts last until the outfitter asks us to close them.
These limits are enforced automatically every night.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you what we hold about you
- correct it
- delete it
- send it to you, or to someone else, in a common file format
- stop using it for something you agreed to, such as the newsletter or analytics
Email hello@icefishingusa.com. We may ask you to confirm it's your email before we act. We'll answer within 30 days, free of charge.
These rights apply wherever you live. Some states, such as California, give residents further rights by law; we honour them for everyone. If you're not happy with our answer, you can contact your state's attorney general or consumer protection office.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels encrypted. Database rules limit each person to what they're allowed to see: an outfitter sees only their own inquiries. Only the site operator has full access. If a breach puts you at real risk of serious harm, we'll tell you and the privacy regulators as quickly as we can.
Children
The site is meant for adults planning trips. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 14. If you think a child has sent us something, email hello@icefishingusa.com and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this page, we'll update the date at the top. If we make a big change to how we use your information, we'll also tell newsletter subscribers by email before it takes effect.
